The Alchemy of Steam, Reed & Patience
Wewal (cane / rattan) is an indigenous wild climbing palm that thrives in the tropical rainforest fringes of Sri Lanka.
Unlike mass-produced plastic rattan substitutes, genuine wewal retains its natural woodgrain memory. Our artisans soften mature cane stalks using steam chambers, gently bending them into flowing sculptural curves before weaving intricate honeycomb and chevron patterns.
